Two days workshop on Child labour concludes

Jammu 8 March: Two days workshop on child labour with special focus on Child & Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and regulation) Act, 2016 organized by Department of Labour Jammu in collaboration with National Development Foundation & UNICEF with technical support from V.V. Giri National Labour Institute Ministry of Labour and Employment concluded today at Conference Hall TRC Residency road Jammu. The workshop was yesterday inaugurated by Dr. S. D. Singh Jamwal, IPS IG Police Jammu zone. Dy Labour Commissioner Jammu Ms. Ankur Mahajan presented welcome address while the programme was conducted by Mrs. Manmeet Bali. Dr. Helen R Sekar, Dr. Kingshuk Sarkar both from VVGNLI, Hilal Bhat from UNICEF and Rajiv Khajuria Founder Emeritus National Development Foundation Jammu also spoke in the inaugural session. During the two days workshop various sessions were taken by Dr. Helen R. Sekar and Dr. Kingshuk Sarkar on Overview of Child Labour in Jammu and Kashmir, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act alongwith amendments and measures for effective enforcement. Participants from various departments including Labour Deptt. Social Welfare Deptt, Police Deptt., NGOs and civil society attended the workshop and discussed in detail about the issues in implementation of CLPRA, reasons of child labour and shared recommendations for minimizing existence of child labour in the state. Apart from this resource persons also shared the formats and processes for preparation of Divisional/ District Specific Action plans on child labour. Vote of thanks were presented by Sonam Gupta Asstt. Labour Commissioner Central. The workshop ended with a pledge to eradicate the menace of child labour from the state and country.
