NRDWP Advocacy workshop held at Samba

Samba, Dec. 20: National Development Foundation, Jammu with support from Communication and Capacity Development Unit, Water and Sanitation Support Organization, Deptt. of PHE Irrigation and Flood Control, J&K Govt. organized a one day Advocacy workshop for media and allied departments at Conference Hall DC Office Samba. Sh. R.K. Varma DDC Samba/ Chairman District Water and Sanitation Mission inaugurated the workshop. Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Sh. Rajiv Malhotra who is also Member Secretary of District Water and Sanitation Mission presented welcome address ad gave a brief account of NRDWP. Officers of various allied departments like Rural Development, Health, Education, Social Welfare, PHE & media persons participated in the workshop. Prominent among others present include ADDC Samba Anwar Hussain Shah, ADC Samba Inderjeet Kumar and State Coordinator CCDU Dr. Narinder Kumar Batyal. State Coordinator also spoke and gave a brief account on CCDU Objectives. About 100 people participated in the workshop. The participants were divided into the groups and allotted topics on which they later on gave presentations on how convergence between various departments can be made. Sh. Rajiv Khajuria, Chief Functionary, National Development Foundation gave a detailed presentation on support activities of NRDWP which are assigned to NDF for Jammu, Samba and Kathua. He thanked DDC Kathua for ensuring the participation of all allied departments. Mr. Khajuria stressed upon the convergence of various departments particularly Rural Development, PHE, Education, Health and Social Welfare for successful implementation of NRDWP. He informed that only 12% of the rural population in India has access to piped water supply and called upon the stake holders to devise IEC and HRD/ trainings in such a manner that capacity of the Village Water and Sanitation Committees is suitably built and they own village water supply scheme. He stressed for defecation free villages and Nirmal Bharat for Healthy and prosperous India. He informed that NDF and District Water and Sanitation Mission will take these activities to block, Gram Panchayat and Village Level for the benefit of all. Sh. R.K. Varma DDC Kathua in his address stressed upon the need to provide every rural person with adequate safe water for drinking, cooking and other domestic basic needs on a sustainable basis. He said that the basic requirement should meet minimum water quality standards and be readily and conveniently accessible to all rural households. He assured the full cooperation of District Administration Samba to National Development Foundation in implementation of IEC activities and thanked NDF Chief Functionary for holding Advocacy workshop in his district. He directed the District and Sectoral Officers to effectively support the implementation of IEC and training activities under NRDWP. He also ordered a committee comprising of SE Hydraulic as chairman, CF NDF as member secretary with CEO Samba, CMO Samba, XEN PHE Samba, DPO Samba, DSWO as members. He desired that this committee should formulate the action plan and circulate to all departments and stakeholders.
