Kathua, Dec. 16: Jitendra Kumar, IAS District Development Commissioner Kathua while speaking in an advocacy workshop for media and allied departments said that for successful implementation and for achieving goals under NRDWP, Deptt. of Rural Development particularly NBA, Education, Health, PHE and Social Welfare must converge and supplement each other’s scheme. The workshop was organized by National Development Foundation Jammu with support from Communication and Capacity Development Unit, Water and Sanitation Support organization, Deptt. of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control. Sh. R.K. Gandotra SE Hydraulic and Member Secretary District Water and Sanitation Mission presented welcome address while Sh. Chand Kishor Sharma DPO Kathua gave a presentation on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. Sh. Rajesh Sharma ADC Kathua, SDM’s and All District ,Sectoral Officers and Media men participated in the workshop. Sh. Rajiv Khajuria, Chief Functionary National Development Foundation gave a detailed presentation on soft components of NRDWP being run by NDF in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts with support from CCDU & WSSO. He said that NRDWP guidelines of 2013 provides new thrust on social and behavior change communication to influence key stake holders to adopt good practices of sanitation and hygiene and empower them with knowledge and skills for planning, implementation and maintenance and management of drinking water supply. Elaborating further DDC Kathua said that Village Water and Sanitation Committees will be strengthened and their capacity will be built in a manner that they are able of managing rural water supply schemes by way of intensive IEC activities, interpersonal communication and other behavorial change methods. DDC thanked National Development Foundation and CCDU for taking initiative in this regard and also for starting District Level activities from Kathua. He directed all district and sectoral officers to support and extend all possible cooperation to National Development Foundation, PIA for Jammu, Samba, Kathua in all activities. DDC also constituted a committee for finalization of Action Plan for district Kathua which comprises of SE Hydraulic Chairman, Chief Functionary National Development Foundation, District Panchayat Officer, Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer as members. The said committee will finalize dates of the programmes and will be responsible for implementation of programme ensuring full convergence and coordination. Later many water samples were tested and demonstration was given to the delegates on how to use Field Testing Kits (FTKs).
